Using the internet as a tool to make money or to get better visibility for your business is a very good thing to do.

Now I have been doing this full time online marketing thing for over three years now and have gained a massive amount of experience.

This seriously tongue-in-cheek quick post here is just to remind you of one of the most basic needs that you need to apply as an internet marketer – or if you prefer to call yourself website owner.

One of the most important things that you need to do as a website owner is to keep supplying very high quality fresh content almost daily to your important websites. This has become even more important recently as Google has been doing a few very big “algorithm” changes in an effort to keep supplying the people that use the Google search tool with the most relevant content.

So why do I say “Do as I say – Not as I do”?

I have been so busy building websites for clienst and doing contracted services to client websites that I have not been doing that exact and very vital part to any of my websites.

As an internet marketer I should be adding fresh original content to all my websites at least every third or fourth day.

There are other things that you should be doing all the time to your websites too – like social marketing and getting back links that are of value to your website – BUT the adding of quality fresh content is so important that you will be very stupid if you fell behind in this aspect.

Doing local research for a small sewing business made me realize that the potential for a great sewing business was very high when I checked the keywords.

It works this way – you take your sewing business idea and feed your main keyword into the keyword tool, this will tell you exactly what people are actually looking for online every month.

Then you simply go and start up a website that supplies those specific searchers with the product that they are looking for.

The Internet is so brilliant in the way that it sends targeted visitors to the exact website that they are looking for – and all you need to do is show Google what you have on your website.

Do not just by stuff – because you get told to!

Hi, I have been working on my website for the last 2 hours fixing something very bad that I did to this website when it was still brand new.

I want to warn you not to be attracted to any new “shiny” products that are being advertised that are supposed to catapult your website into the huge earners zone.

I did just that and bought and installed a clever autoblogging tool that would put articles and posts onto my website daily – without me having to do any work at all.

It seemed like such a good idea at the time, and I liked to idea of not having to spend an hour or two daily working on this website. Now what they promised me, and what I got were two different things naturally. I added close to 700 posts to the website and was still down in position 800 on the search engine results pages.

I did know better, and because of the “cowboy” in me – I cannot help myself sometimes – I still went ahead at the time and did it.

Not the funny part is that I did not really regret doing it, because I have learnt a valuable lesson. I wanted to give you the same lesson without you having to waste 6 months of a websites life to find out that it is a bad idea.

Do it the hard way – and do it right, and you will find yourself in a better financial position much quicker.

If you are ever confronted with some sales page that came into your email, and you are busy seeing “proof” that someone is making truck loads of cash from a-simple-and-easy-to-implement-system, I want you to think about this…

Why would that person try to sell you his clever system for only-$47 when he is supposed to be making so much money with it?

Why does he need your $47?

Why would he create competition with his system?

Why would he risk the system becoming overexposed and being found out by Google?

Yeah why?

So then close that sales page and go back to doing the work the ethical way. Even if it seems like hard work, and very boring.

Small Business research – relating to Businesses for sale

I was looking at the businesses for sale and other small business opportunities that are listed online in the businesses for sale directories, and I was amused.

You see – I found almost exactly what I was expecting to find. Small businesses that are listed for sale – are not only expensive – but they are showing very low income levels and profit level in relation to the amount of risk and effort that you should be putting into that business.

All you have to do is read the listing (and I promise that I am not trying to pick on either the business or the website selling the business)

Now this sounds great right? A Shop that is established, in a popular Mall, nice niche – if you like jewelery, and only three problems.

THREE?

Sure, you would not be getting this business for free right? But it seems that if you wanted you could just go and work for this person for the same R10 000 a month and not have any stress or risk.

Then this is not going to be cheap – I would guess the business is likely to be asking R180 000. Now this is not to bad considering that you could pay it off in two years and then have the asset.

BUT, now consider what I could offer you for R500. OK, for that R500 ($70) you would be doing all the work, BUT if you bought that shop would you not need to do all that work anyway?

My business option lets you work your own hours, and do so from home.

I would even go so far as to say that if you took my R500 business and then did 8 hours a day (just like you would have done in the shop) AND you had done correct research in the beginning on your niche choice, but remember that you get all that training included in the R500 price. So now you have been doing your 8 hours a day for 6 months.

I tell you this for a fact – If your research was good your income per month by then would be somewhere between R15000 and R150 000 a month. To be honest probably around R20 000 at 6 months and expect around R70 000 at a year.

Now you are probably going to start to shake you head and mutter that this has to be a scam – right?

Firstly how could R500 be a very big risk? Secondly I do show you the proof. My proof shows you that there are very many millions of searches a day for specific products online – People searching for a solution to their problems.

It is so very easy to supply them with a solution. Not only that you are able to really know what they are looking for – BECAUSE that is what they actually looked up.

If someone looks up “kidney Diet” are they wanting to hire a jumping castle? Duh, so give them a solution, and give them a cheap, but high quality digital solution, and you will get money easily.

The hard part is top get your website listed onto the first page in the search engine results pages.

BUT I INCLUDE ALL THAT IN THE R500

So should you go out there and spend R180 000 on a shop that will still have a small risk of failure?

Or do you decide to start up a web based business that is easy to run, will eventually run by itself? After about 8 months you need only an hour a day.

Crafters on the internet, or perhaps, crafting websites are a fantastic way for crafters to get recognition or riches from their crafting products and abilities by owning and promoting a craft internet site on the internet.

I am so fanatical about these two words that putting them together makes me all worked up about explaining to you all the conceivable possibilities that there are in relation to crafts online.

Introduction

Blogs websites and forums are on the internet in their thousands and this is good. The common trend is for crafters to not be very skilled at marketing and they sometimes teach each other which big crafting websites are the ones where they can go to and offer the items that they have manufactured.

While this is a perfectly great way for all the artists and crafters to earn pocket money you will never get exceedingly wealthy using this option.

Now there are many ways that a crafter that does not want to turn themselves into a big business, and would like to still have time to do their crafts and run their businesses, can get ahead online with their websites

Serious about business?

If you are not moved by the option that you could get a great income from your crafting skills then I respect that, I would also prefer to be able to only need to share my efforts with those friends that I have both offline and on the internet and not need to get funds from my crafting items.

If you are more than happy with the friends version, a simple blog or one of the free Word-press websites might be good enough for your requirements, and then you could go and join some of the chat rooms and pretty soon you will have all your needs organized online.

However if you are thinking of having a more professional businesslike online business, then a few changes that you will need to take care of with your website. This is rather a extended list and I would not have the space to go into all the details here, but needless to say that you would need to be serious about the idea. Enjoy yourself by all means but you will still need to be given a step by step plan and then you will then need to stick to for your business concern to reach its end result.

Problems

Having any sort of website presence can and in fact will certainly affect your previously available free time. That is and more than like always be the biggest obstacle with artists that are also online, a business domain needs a minimum of 2 hours a day for it to grow and flourish online and if you commence to neglect that side of your online business then you might fail.

Another problem here is that if you do not have a mentor that has vast marketing knowledge about the internet, you might find yourself chasing knowledge and worse applying incorrect marketing systems. Beware of this problem.

Opportunities

Selling your products online is great because it gives you the choice on which direction you would like your website or internet business to develop in. You could do drop shipping and sell in bulk to different crafting outlets around the world. You could even write and promote e books and training courses and sell those to beginners that need training.

Finally you could simply take orders on your items and trade them direct to people who would like to buy directly from you.

Where you could end up

I am a firm believer that the craft industry will grow and develop online; It is becoming increasingly easier to do web seminars and other methods of communicating with people all across the world. I am convinced that there will come a time when we seldom even notice that the world is really becoming smaller and we will be happily ensconced in it and still doing our crafting.

I believe that websites that we now call membership sites will have become normal, and designers internationally will be co operating with each other in many different ways.

Are you one of the business owners who think they know about website marketing?

What make me the clever one to call most of you “un educated” about online marketing?

Well it is very simple, I have been doing 16 hours a day online learning each and every method that exists online – and offline.

I have learnt and applied tricks that are obsolete within days and weeks.

So does that make my comments true yet?

No, BUT I have been telecanvassing a lot to local small businesses.

Now I realize that you are all getting so many SEO experts calling you up everyday and will naturally give us the knee-jerk response.

No Problem (and I very seldom get those bugger-off comments because my marketing is a little weird and some would say bizarre, but it works)

But I can still read between the lines.

95% of small business owners out there, still think that their website builder is an expert. They are very likely months or even years out of date.

Then there are others that simply apply some nasty software trick to your website to earn the R2500 a month that you are paying them, and you are getting crooked in a massive way.

It is your families future that you are shrugging off.

Make sure that your website is getting at least 7 of the following  items!

1. Fresh daily content

2. Original content

3. Every Image must be optimized

4. Most incoming links that you engineer must be contextual

5. Your fan page on face-book is fresh and current – fix and add daily

6. You belong to – and participate in – at least 3 social sites like twitter

7. You have a very carefully worked out e mail marketing system

8. You don’t just add posts to your website, you must add pages

9. Every single post and page must have an underlying keyword campaign running – never just do stuff willy-nilly!

10. You have a blog system running (at least 5 of them) and they are used to supply you with the contextual keywords

11. You are adding keyword related videos at least every third day

12. You are adding slides – also keyword related

13. You create very high quality keyword related articles and post those up every third or 4th day to high PR websites and directories.

14. You add an occasional hub-page or squidoo or any web 2.0 property

15. you post and tweet every move you make

16. you keep your Google maps information up to date

17. You join directories all the time

18. You run classified adds all the time

19. Ha Ha – are you still having fun? there are a lot more, like getting your RSS systems running, setting up your feedburner, joining forums…

If your SEO specialist is doing all of those things to your website you are a very lucky business owner! Hang on to your SEO person, and know that your business will be involved in the future in a big way! Well done!

All About Working from home- Small Business Training

I have been working from home for 30 years, and while I have had some serious ups and downs, I have always gained the best of the work from home lifestyle.
Being a very creative person I attack life with a creative energy that is not always a good thing.

While I do not want to bore you with a long personal story of my life, I wanted to show you what I have been doing and how my path to this point in time unraveled.

This post is straight from my heart – written without revision and told like it is!

I designed kitchens and furniture for years, I was continually doing art and craft things like pottery courses etc while doing all the serious furniture design and decorating stuff.

Eventually the crafter in me took control and for 15 years I was making different products and selling them on the craft markets, flea markets and chopped and changed products whenever I got bored with whatever I was doing at the time. While this was great fun, a lot of the products were unprofitable and because they were time-users had to go, and I would move on to another new (and fun) idea.

However all along I have had a very serious love for marketing and this was probably 50% of the reason I was doing crafts on the flea markets. It became a challenge for me to take an idea that was never likely to make me a millionaire and at the very least earn a living from that specific idea. Some were hugely successful and others were complete disasters.

4 Years ago I took the step to become a real “full-time-artist”, and knowing that while I am very creative I will never be a Rembrandt, I was not worried and dived in to it head on.

It actually was working out really great and to be honest a little better than I expected, BUT a massive disaster was looming – The 2008 world financial collapse.

When That happened I had only just started to get very nice art commissions and was a little horrified to find all my new commissions canceled.

Now we get to where I am Today

I decided to go online to sell my art and the hammock chairs that I still manufactured and discovered a fantastic new world. I never realized until I started to do online marketing how brilliant the Internet really is.

You can literally target the exact people that you would like to communicate with and this realization got me very excited.

It is now 34 months later – and I am still excited, still amazed and now have the skills to do almost anything that I like online. This is not an entirely good thing as I went a little berserk jumping from product to product, building websites and joining every forum, e mailing list, buying up every new training product and a whole lot more.

In between I have been earning enough to still be here, but had to try my best to stop being like an excited child at a toy sale.

I did a quick calculation and see that I have been sitting in front of this computer for something like 12200 hours. WOW! Now the really funny side to all this is that I wish that I had more time to be online.

About 5 months ago I decided to stop trying to grow all my websites at once and to target the niches that I knew very well, and was able to really help people achieve their dreams.

This meant that I had to focus on my past experience with the crafter industry, the marketing side of small home businesses and my new found skills as an online marketer. However I was still trying to do it all the long hard way and was not using laser targeted methods to go straight for the money. Now don’t get me wrong – I like money as much as the next guy – but it has never been a burning ambition of mine to just go for riches, I have always wanted to have fun along the way.

Having spent hundreds of thousands of rands (I am South African) learning almost everything that can be found out on how to do the different methods of Internet marketing I sat down and planned a few strategies that I thought would suite my interests.

The research that I applied led me to 3 or 4 systems that I knew would easily be successful as a nice style of marketing and would still earn great money.

I did not plan to share any of these secrets with anyone. I had found out that those that do not know about Internet marketing at all think that it is some sort of scam or multi-level marketing system and would suddenly go deaf on me when I tried to explain to them that they had the opportunity to leave the nasty rat race and do exactly the things that they love and actually get great pay from the Internet.

Even worse – those that were already online and new quite a bit about how to use the Internet as a means to personal wealth and happiness – had become jaded and sick and tired of all the rubbish that was being thrown at them for silly amounts of money all day online. Personally I had also become very good at spotting the liars from the real deal.
What I now do for myself online

I still have my original hammock chair website running, perhaps partly for my ego, but also because my customers were very serious about doing bodily harm to me if I stopped making the hammocks. I also admit that it is great to occasionally get a day outside in the sun putting together a hammock or chair for someone.

I even still have some of the art that I produced back in 2008 – so occasionally someone who knows about it will come and buy a painting from me.

I have over 100 websites which I have already admitted is way too many, and plan to let most of those lapse when they come up for renewal. (update added here – They did come and a lot lapsed as they needed attention, and I sold others for a nice profit and at time of revising I now have less that 40 websites in total) Some I am not sure about – like the 4 that I have on e mail marketing, because I know that the commissions from Aweber are residual, but I have not even asked you for your e mail address here. If you look at the banners that I have on the side of this website you will see that they do not even ask for your email address. My opinion is this – if you like what I offer, and want more you will come to me, I should not need to bribe you and continually harass you for your trust and subsequent business.

Having said that I am aware that the richest online marketers all have very large e mail lists and do get the bulk of their income from that e mailing list. In any training that I do, I probably will tell you that you need a good list or at the very least a well visited fan page on Face-book!

I do a lot of product creation and I have been doing more targeted marketing with methods like writing my own books for publication on Amazon and locally here in South Africa on Kalahari.

I also have a few selected clients that I do the SEO and social marketing for their websites and their businesses.

I have partnerships in websites and have at least 10 incomplete products at any time. I still love what I do and have an insatiable thirst for knowledge about how this all works online.
So why have I gone to all this trouble to write all this down?

I admit that I have a need to help people, I get a thrill from seeing someone that I have helped like no other thrill from all the things that I do. ( my wife says that it is an illness – LOL)

Mostly I find myself helping my friends and family that are either unhappy with what they do, or are unemployed and looking for something to keep them alive.

I decided only yesterday that I really should stop being sneaky about keeping my hard earned methods to myself, put them down in writing and offer them to a select few people that really want to do something online.

These methods are not brand new, nor unique, but they are ones that I know that if you sat down and did properly, without deviating and checking your e mails every ten minutes, you will make a nice living for yourself.

I often say that I wish I had known how to do this 2 years ago, but it wouldn’t have helped me then as I did not know how to do a lot of what I now will teach you how.

Now while this might seem like you have finally got to the sales pitch – it is not really true, as I do not actually have the time to spare to suddenly start to spend days on end training newcomers. So I have decided to limit the numbers, and limit the time that I spend doing the mentoring. Hell I have been doing it anyway – why not get a little back for the time and knowledge that I have learned the hard way?
